Requirements

Use Chrome 138 or newer on desktop. The instant extractive brief runs in packaged extension code and does not require Chrome's generative model, an account, an API key, or a model download.

Richer summaries, five output languages, grounded Q&A, and project synthesis use Chrome's built-in on-device model. Chrome currently documents Windows 10/11, macOS 13+, Linux, or Chromebook Plus; at least 22 GB of free profile-volume space; and either more than 4 GB of GPU memory or at least 16 GB of system memory with four CPU cores. The initial model download requires an unmetered connection.

Get started

1. Open a regular web article or directly linked text-based PDF, or choosePaste text in the panel.
2. Click Research Assistant Pro in Chrome's toolbar.
3. Choose the whole page, selected passage, or pasted source and select a brief length.
4. Create the instant local brief, or choose the richer Chrome AI option and keep the panel open if Chrome needs to download its model.
5. Review each evidence label and supporting source text. When richer AI is available, ask contextual questions and inspect the exact excerpts checked.
6. Copy the brief or download it as Markdown when needed.

Supported sources and limits

• Readable web pages opened over HTTP or HTTPS.
• Directly opened, text-based PDFs up to 30 MB and 300 pages.
• Local PDFs when Chrome's Allow access to file URLsoption is enabled.
• Text you explicitly paste into the panel. The extension never reads the clipboard automatically.
• Sources are capped at 160,000 characters; the panel discloses when a source was shortened.

Scanned, image-only, and password-protected PDFs are not supported. Chrome-protected pages such as browser settings cannot be read by extensions. If you open the extension from its Chrome Web Store page immediately after installation, switch to Paste textor follow the in-panel prompt to open a source and invoke the extension again.

If Chrome's richer AI is unavailable

Use the instant local brief immediately. It preserves source wording and does not use a cloud fallback. Other output languages, grounded Q&A, and multi-source synthesis remain unavailable until Chrome's built-in model is ready.

1. Update Chrome and restart the browser.
2. Confirm the device and free-storage requirements above.
3. Use an unmetered connection for the first model download.
4. On a managed device, ask the browser administrator whether Chrome's on-device generative AI model is disabled by policy.

Local data and deletion

Page, PDF, selection, or pasted source text; free briefs; and questions disappear when the panel is closed or reloaded. Summary length and output language remain in Chrome's local extension storage. A Pro library is saved only when you explicitly create it and is encrypted with your passphrase. Removing the extension or clearing its stored data deletes preferences, license state, and any encrypted library.
